WhatsApp is in the process of developing multiple new features for its Android version. WhatsApp has recently been spotted testing a feature similar to AirDrop-style file sharing available on iOS phones without Internet connectivity. WhatsApp then began rolling AR call effects to testers on Android phones.

According to a recent report, WhatsApp is launching an improved feature that streamlines user interactions. The platform is currently testing a feature that allows users to double-tap a message and see a message reaction. The WhatsApp Android beta v2.24.16.7 features double-tap message reactions.

Double-tapping to respond to a message would facilitate quick responses, adding convenience to the process. Instagram, which belongs to WhatsApp’s parent company Meta, is the other platform in which the feature is available.

Double-tap message reactions allow users to send emojis by double-tapping any message instead of long-pressing to open the reaction menu. Long-pressing the message will open the reaction menu if you wish to send a different reaction.

It is also possible to respond quickly to multimedia content via this new message reaction feature, such as photos, videos, GIFs, etc. Currently, WABetaInfo does not plan to offer the option to disable the double-tap message reaction functionality, which will be the default functionality going forward.

Several users may find this a bit annoying because the double-tap reaction may result in accidental actions. This feature is available through the Google Play Store beta program and appears in the latest WhatsApp Android beta.

In addition, the feature is limited to a small number of users, and there is no indication of when it will be included in stable releases.

WhatsApp Double Tap Feature: When will the Feature Roll Out?

This feature, unfortunately, isn’t going to be available to all of our users until some time shortly. The feature is still being tested by WhatsApp, so it may take a while for the app to be ready for us. As soon as it comes to the app, it’s going to be one of the most popular additions to the app.

How the WhatsApp Double Tap Feature Might Work?

At the moment, you must tap and hold on to a message in WhatsApp to react and then select an emoji. There is a bit of a delay, isn’t there? It is intended to change this with the new feature.

  • Magic of double-tapping: Once this feature is available, you can respond to messages by double-tapping them.
  • Default heart emoji: When you double-tap on the WhatsApp icon, the app may automatically display a heart-shaped emoji. However, you may also select other emojis.
  • Faster and more fun: This feature would make chatting more enjoyable and engaging, letting you express yourself more quickly.

A default heart emoji will be available when double-tapping on a message, saving users time as they don’t need to open the reaction tray to respond. To react with a different emoji than the default heart emoji, users will need to open the reaction tray once. Thus, flexibility is maintained while efficiency is maintained.

WhatsApp Might Release Reshare Status Updates

WhatsApp is also working on a feature similar to Instagram’s double-tap reaction feature. With Reshare Status Updates, users can share status updates when tagged. With this new feature, people named in a status update can share the update with their contacts, ensuring that relevant information reaches a wider audience.

Within the interface of the status update feature, a new button will be available. With this button, users can easily re-share status updates that have already been mentioned. Users do not need to take screenshots or request the original sharer send them to them privately during this process.

Beta testers cannot currently reshare status updates. WhatsApp plans to refine this feature before its official release as part of its ongoing development. Although no specific timeline has been provided, upcoming updates will include this feature.
